Technology

Ease of Accessibility

Over the past four years, Lopez School has undergone massive improvements as far as technology thanks to the recent technology levy. Elementary students have access to high-end ASUS Chromebooks which are equipped with touch screens, 180-degree flexibility, and multiple cameras as well as iPads. Students begin building computer competence in kindergarten using learning games and simple research tasks. The goal is to develop the confidence and skill to use computers as a lifetime learning tool. Our 6-12th grade students are issued Windows laptops to use at school as part of our 1:1 technology initiative.   For more info on this program, please visit our 1:1 Technology Initiative page.

Recently, with the Washington State mandated shift to virtual schooling because of COVID19, all K-12 students were able to make a smooth transition into online schooling because of the 1:1 technology access. LISD extended the 1:1 program to all K-12 students, deploying Chromebooks and iPads to K-5 students.

Each classroom and many auxiliary rooms have interactive wireless projectors that are used by students, staff, and community members. Our multi-purpose room has a large HD projector that is used for presentations and student movie nights.

Making Connections

Staff, students, and visitors at Lopez Island School District have access to high-speed, internet from any room of the school. All of our network infrastructures is brand new and cutting edge thanks to federal E-rate reimbursements. All internet traffic is filtered for content so for the safety of the network's users.

Digital Citizenship

All students K-12 receive lessons on how to navigate our digital world. StudentsStudents use computers in a classroom are shown how what they do online can leave a permanent digital footprint and that sometimes what we post can be taken out of context. Privacy, safety, and security are big topics that are discussed as well as ways to spot plagiarism and false information. For more info, visit our Digital Citizenship page

LISD Technology Levy

In 2016, the voters approved a four-year recurring technology levy for Lopez Schools. This much-needed source of funding is providing students and staff with access to modern devices, support, tools, and training. We are grateful that the levy was renewed by our voters in August of 2020.  For quick updates, you can visit our technology levy Facebook page as well.

Connecting to Curriculum

At Lopez School, we understand that technology isn't the end all, be all for education. The devices we use are tools and how we model that use and show students how to use them is just another piece of their education. For information about the specific technical skills that our students learn, and to see how this learning is connected with the core curriculum subjects such as reading, writing, mathematics, and to review our technology policies and procedures, please follow these links:
