Lopez School Moves Forward on Secondary 1:1 Technology Initiative

Students sit on coach with backpacks and computersDespite the setback of computer manufacturer BAK USA going out of business earlier this month, the Lopez Island School District Technology Committee has moved forward with ordering an alternative device to the chosen BAK Atlas Premium.

BAK USA was chosen as the computer manufacturer of choice because of their education-focused business model and their low-cost, high-quality devices. The BAK Atlas Premium devices were ordered at the end of the 2017-2018 school year and delivery was expected in July. Frequent delays caused the deployment to be pushed back until the company closed its doors, citing the recent political climate between America and China as its reasoning.

The technology committee was already prepared for this and had been investigating other device options. They have settled on the Lenovo 11E Yoga 5th Gen. This device has similar features to the BAK Premium but has more options for students than the previous BAK model. The committee is very excited to get this device into students' hands. Computers have been ordered and are set to be delivered sometime in early December. Students should expect to receive devices before the end of the first semester.
