Grades 6-12Greg Ewert

Working in one of the first alternative schools in Seattle made Greg Ewert realize that he wanted to be a teacher. Now he enjoys helping his middle school students figure out what inspires them. “I love to watch young people find their passion,” he says.

In addition to a degree in environmental design from the Univ. of Washington, Greg has a master’s degree in education from Pacific Oaks College. Before coming to Lopez in 1991, he taught 12 years at public and private schools including The Little School in Bellevue, Lakeside School in Seattle, and Shaw School in the San Juans. He is also a carpenter and photographer.

Ewert continues his lessons outside the classroom with student trips to Nicaragua to do community service work.  “I’d like my students to realize that they have control of what they will be doing and what they will become,” he says. “There are many ways to be in this world – be tolerant of other cultures – learn about them and support all people on this planet of ours.”
