A love of music and children prompted Ann Marie Fischer to become a music teacher whose approach is to teach “the ‘language of music’ in a comprehensive and joyful way.” She hopes that students in her classes learn a bit about personal happiness and how to function in the world. “I love to see students grow as rounded human beings,” she says. “It is especially impressive when you have students for seven years: from 6th grade to seniors in high school.”
Ann Marie Fischer came to Lopez in 1987 after receiving her B.A. in Music Education from the University of Washington. She spent one year as a Fulbright Exchange Teacher at Kallion Lukio, a prestigious school for the arts in Helsinki, Finland. As a professional musician, she likes to facilitate student learning in a supportive atmosphere as a “guide on the side.” “I think that students like the structured freedom they have in my classes,” she says.
