Lopez Island School District Faculty / Staff

Grades KConnie Holz All Subjects

Connie Holz has the job of introducing Lopez Island School to five-year olds and the parents of Lopez Island, igniting the magic that continues throughout her students’ years of learning.

She began teaching in Atlantic City, New Jersey when casino gambling caused a shortage of teachers. Her nurse’s training allowed her to teach high school science without teaching credentials, planting within her the seed to teach. She then taught troubled teens while she worked on her teaching certification.

Sunset Elementary School in West Linn, Oregon was her “home” for 19 years while teaching 3rd and 4th grades, leading enrichment classes, and tutoring middle school boys. After receiving a master’s degree in curriculum instruction, she has continued lifelong learning through course work, seminars, professional development and her plethora of education books. Connie loves to share her affinity of teaching and has mentored many young teachers.

After moving to the San Juan Islands in 2007 she taught at Shaw Island School before joining the Lopez staff. “Not many people are fortunate enough to spend many hours each day in the stimulating company of young, inquisitive minds,” she says. “Each day brings joy and rewarding challenges, and at least a handful of laughs!”
