Music and Spanish might not seem related, but “both are a type of language” says Lisa Geddes, who started teaching on Lopez in 2000. “Each provides students with opportunities for making connections…within themselves and the world community. My hope is that the connections students make in my classes will be lifelong gifts.”
Students in her music classes learn about and experiment with organized sound and movement in a safe, supportive and playful setting that allows them to discover how essential each person is in creating a group musical piece. She especially loves the moment in a musical ensemble “when the music first gels and there is a palpable sense of wonder amongst the whole group!”
Lisa Geddes has a bachelor’s degree in elementary music and bilingual education from Eastern Oregon University, and teaches music education during the summer as an adjunct faculty member of Western Oregon University. Her interests include Radio Drama, social justice, volunteer work for Lopez Community Land Trust and playing music.
