2009 Football
On Saturday June 25th the All State B-8 football game was played in Odessa WA. Lopez Island had two players Colton Jardine and Leland Nopson participating on the West team in this special game. The teams consisted of players from all over the state of Washington.
The West team won 18-12 in an exciting game coming down to the last play to determine the outcome. Our boys both received very special honors in this game, Leland was voted the Offensive Lineman of the game and Colton received the honor of game Most Valuable Player (MVP).
 
Leland and Colton both started on offense and defense and were major contributors to the games outcome. On defense both boys were dominant making spectacular plays and leading the west team. Offensively, Colton played quarterback and completed many great passes and even ran for a touchdown. One of Colton's passes went to Leland for another touchdown. So.... the Lopez Island boys scored two out of the three touchdowns on the winning West squad.
It was a great day and  both these boys represented our school and community with class and sportsmanship.
When you see them this summer congratulate them and give them a thumbs up!

2008 “Pacific Coast League” Team Sportsmanship Award 
2008 “John Trotto Team Sportsmanship Award” 

Special  Sportsmanship Award: The Football Officials Association that cover all schools from 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, 2B, 1B in Whatcom, Skagit, and Island Counties. The Lopez Island football team was awarded the 2008 John Trotto Sportsmanship Award. The officials working every game from 4A-1B rate the teams and coaching staff in terms of sportsmanship on a grading scale 1-10 with ten being the highest. They take into account the attitude and respect shown toward game officials and opponents as the determining factor.  Our football players and coaches at Lopez Island High School received the highest vote totals of all the schools and were awarded the 2008 John Trotto Sportsmanship Award.
