Mini-weeks provide a different way to engage students, help them build skills and encourage involvement in the wider world. Three times each year, our teachers provide three days of creative curriculum geared to nature, nurture and exploration. Students choose from experiential classes such as overnight sailing; kayak camping; mountaineering; building a cob oven and baking bread; pressing and preserving apples; art explorations in block printing, watercolor and acrylics; tennis and golf. Classes are led by middle school staff, but community experts also volunteer, often teaching classes in subjects such as ichthyology, photography, sculpture and storytelling. In addition to meeting academic objectives, Mini-Week classes help students strengthen teamwork skills; improve communication abilities; and develop self-confidence, empathy and maturity.
